The Old Market House State Historic Site has been many things through the years - including the original farmer's market, city hall, and even jail.

It is as the city jail that the most notorious ghost story arises.  A prostitute was arrested and jailed overnight, but in the late hours the river rose and flooded the town, drowning the unfortunate woman as there was no guard on duty overnight.  The woman still haunts the property to this date, and employees refuse to enter the basement after seeing and hearing visions and sounds of a woman in despair.
