The one place with the most ghost sightings is the DeSoto House. Built in 1856, the DeSoto House has seen many visitors pass through from around the world, and it is reported that the basement was once used as a temporary morgue. These reports do not appear to be based in fact, but don't let that concern you.
During the Civil War, a passenger train with troops bound for war collided head on with a freight train due to a faulty signal. The result was a catastrophic loss of life, and legend has it that the corpses were brought the the only place big enough to hold them all, the DeSoto House. The ghosts of the enlisted are sometimes found wandering the basement, and the ghosts of their loved ones can be heard weeping. One such widow, the "lady in black," has been known to interact with guests on occasion. Others hear parties and footsteps on the fourth floor at night (the hotel only has three floors).
